Subject: [jbs-9] JBS booth at Indy TP 4th of July event.

Independence Day 2009 came and went. Indiana's Tea Party held their celebration in our capital city. The JBS was a welcomed participant. We had a successful presence with a booth.

Out of all the events and booths we've worked this event has got to be the testimony to our commitment and resolve.

It was barely a high of 70 and steady rain all day. In fact, the fireworks were cancelled for the first time in 27 years. Yet there we stood cold, in rain ponchos, under a leaky tent for hours working out of boxes distributing a few DVD's and some pamphlets and flyers to people who could keep them protected from the rain.

The booth was a mess. Supplies piled under a table and the tent was rigged up with tarps trying to stop the water. We didn't/couldn't bother with decorating or putting up our nice signs. We didn't/couldn't engage in banter and conversation but that wasn't because of the miserable conditions. It was because of the crowd! We were continually BUSY!!!

Our booth had a line of an estimated 150 people that barely waxed and waned for two hours. It was by far the largest line of any booth. It snaked across the event area as hundreds of people patiently waited cold, in rain ponchos and under some umbrellas just to get to our tent to sign our petitions.

We knew early on that we wanted to focus on colleting petition signature for state sovereignty and illegal immigration that we have been working on. Turns out the Hoosier activists are completely in support of it. We obtained 700 signatures!

It was no small fete let me tell ya. People would come through with their umbrella's dripping on the petitions. Their sleeves were wet. We were vainly giving them wet towels to dry their hands. Some pens wouldn't write. Most petitions ripped.

EVERYONE was pleasant and positive. People were thanking us!!

It was a good day. We strengthened our allegiance amongst the activist groups. We added to our ground work on state issues. We got out some information about the JBS.

Thank you to everyone that donated for the booth and offered to work. And to those who dropped by to say hi and signed the petitions.

Mary & Lynette

Those petitions were linked in the email as written but the meetup site doesn't post it that way.

The petitions are in the "Files" of this meetup group.
If you support the cause I hope you will print some and collect signatures.

For history and information about the petitions mentioned in this post you may read from the message board threads.
