Hello everyone,
There are at least four ways that we can affect significant change in our state right now, even with our relatively small numbers at the begging of this Meetup. First: It is important that we actively engage in a letter writing campaign. To read more on why the letter writing campaign is so important, please read "From the 2000 census here are the figures:", which can be found here Please note; you are not being asked to write a letter every day, nor every other day, but only as often as your schedule allows you to. The intent of this national campaign is too coordinate and multiply our efforts exponentially by avoiding an unnecessarily duplication of our individual work. Therefore, I am asking you to use the letters that we already have posted as "springboards" for your letter writing activities. We will become more successful the more consistently we write, and we will write more as we see success and share our success stories with others. To get started in your letter writing click here You have multiple choices; you can write another letter which addresses the current state of the issue in light of your representatives reply, you can click on any of the other issues that interest you and write the first letter on that topic, or if there are not enough issues for you to write about, and you would like more options, you can find them by clicking here, and visiting the full list. Once you receive a reply from your representative that you would like to share with us, please post the letter in the "Files" section, write me, or another assistant organizer, and we will get your letter posted as soon as possible. Then the rest of us can springboard off of your letter. Second: Attending our representative's town hall meetings as a group. I ask each of you to reach out to your representative and find out where and when the next town hall meeting will be. Once you have that information, please share the information with the rest of us, and we will post an official Meetup message. As that date approaches, we will give you additional tools and techniques that you can combine with your own in order to make our town hall meeting a success. Third: Is to write thoughtful and well reasoned letters your local paper. For most of us right now in the Quad-Cities we need to write to both The Quad-City Times Opinion column and to The Quad-City Times Letters column. If you are not writing the letters that get published, please get in there and post reasonable, and well thought out replies to the people that post on the topic of discussion. Be polite and respectful, and most of all, knowledgeable and reasonable in your arguments. If you can't do any of that, then get in there and weigh in with something like "I am not so sure about Steve's argument, it sounds a little too controlling and restricting to me, but I would agree that Bob is on the right track as his argument seems to provide more options and freedom for people." If you live outside of the Quad-Cities area please write me and give me you local papers name and it's web address and I will include it on this list as well. Fourth and finally: I ask each of you not to abandon or ignore your other affiliations/Meetups/Blogs. I ask each of you to "Recruit, recruit and recruit." Use your circle of influence and show your fellow American's how to become tremendously successfully here at the grassroots level. Additionally, please seriously consider joining As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, you can contact me here Kind regards, - Al Edited by Albert Gallatin on Oct 19, 2008 12:51 AM |
