There was a really good turn out to the meeting, better than to any previous Congressional Delegate town meetings I've attended. It is clear that people are fed up with all the crazy government spending etc.going on in Washington D.C..
Rep. Lummis gave an overview of what she has been doing in Washington and then took questions from the audience. Prior to the meeting audience members wrote their questions and comments on 3x5 cards. Then Rep. Lummis read from those cards. I felt that she did a good job addressing the questions. Of course she was true to the Republican party but also reflected the "common sense values" of Wyoming citizens. JBS members, Wyoming Freedom Campaign members, and other Constitutionalists were present and had some of their questions addressed, including topics of the CFR and Tri-lateral Commission, the Federal Reserve, and the Freedom Index. Don gave Rep. Lummis the most recent issue of The New American magazine that has a cover story about the CFR. Rep. Lummis said that she reads the CFR's publications and likes some of the writers ideas but is concerned about their influence over the federal government. She doesn't know much about the Tri-lateral Commission. Eric asked about the progress of the bill to Audit the Federal Reserve. She said that there is close to 300 co-sponsers now and she is one of them. She spoke about how when she was Wyoming State Treasurer she welcomed the yearly audit even though it was time consuming and took away some of her employees for 4 months each year. She said it protected the citizens, and her. She said she thought Ben Bernanke would welcome an audit to protect him. I about laughed out loud at that. She also said she thought that some of the co-sponsers were just looking for a scape goat for the economic mess they have helped create. Unfortunately she believes that it will not pass. She thinks that Nancy Pelosi will not let it pass. I brought attention (via the 3x5 card) to Sen. Enzi's (80%) , Sen. Barrasso's (90%) and her score (90%) on the most recent Freedom Index. She wasn't aware of the Freedom Index but was tickled that someone would point out her good score in a public setting. Then she wondered why it wasn't 100%. At that time I spoke up and told her and the audience that the average House and Senate scores are only in the 30%s. Most of the meeting centered around peoples' concerns over the proposed Obama health care plan. Rep. Lummis showed a copy of proposed health care bill-two large volumes and said that she is reading it during this recess. She is an advocate of Congress actually reading the bills they are voting on...many do not. She is not in favor of this plan and pointed out Sen. Enzi's proposal. She gave out a hand out comparing the two. She also displayed a chart sort of like a flow chart or a mixed up board game, but very confusing, about Obama's health care plan. She said that some members of Congress wanted to mail copies of this chart to their constituents but that Rep. Pelosi put a stop to that, I can see why, one look at it and it would scare anyone away from Obama's plan. A 16 year old in the audience congratulated Rep. Lummis on her comments about how this out of control gov. spending is going to affect his generation. He also asked what other forms of income Congress is looking at. She rattled off a list, all of which are some sort of tax. A few people in the audience commented how more taxing is not the answer, it only hinders/kills business and therefore creates an even smaller tax base. Many seemed to understand that we must reduce gov. spending, and get back to industry. Overall it was a good meeting. Rep. Lummis may not vote they way we want her to for the same reasons we understand but as long as she keeps voting well that's better than what other states have to deal with. I was pleased that so many people are starting to wake up an therefore may be open to the information we have to share. Don got the last comments in and gave a plug for JBS.org which Rep. Lummis repeated over the microphone. Hope you each are able to attend similar town meetings with our Congressional Delegates in your area. Please let us know via email or the message board on how they go. |
