"Wapakoneta Daily News 2nd Amendment defended Monday, 26 October 2009 By KATIE YANTIS Staff Writer ST. ... MoreMARYS — The Second Amendment of the Constitution was the focus of the town hall meeting held Sunday afternoon in Memorial Park. The Second Amendement states; “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Many gathered in the park to show support of the Second Amendment and the liberties that come along with it. John Birch Society chapter leader Bob McCune began the meeting reading from “Overview of America” by John McManus. “The sober reality is that America has been lead far from its beginnings,” McCune read. “Citizens must come to embrace timeless concepts called Americanism.” McCune continued to read from the book, evaluating the different categories of government, to enforce the idea of the republic. “The alternative to Americanism is the idea that our rights are privileges released by an oligarchy,” McCune read. McCune then urged those listening in Memorial Park to stay involved in groups such as the John Birch Society and to get educated by reading the Constitution. “I ask that you pay attention to your congressman, your senators, your president,” McCune said. “They swore to uphold the Constitution. Read it, know what it means.” Ohioans for Concealed Carry Coordinator Dave Milthaler also spoke at the meeting. He spoke about the amendment and a march supporting its rights. “Losing the Second Amendment is losing what makes us Americans to begin with,” Milthaler said. “I encourage you to be involved.” The Ohio Second Amendment march will be held on April 10, at the Ohio Statehouse. The national Second Amendment march will be held April 19 in Washington, DC. “People are concerned about their rights,” Milthaler said. “The march is about reuniting Americans for great appreciation of their rights.” Among the group Sunday afternoon was Englewood resident Kent Maynard. “It’s all about the Second Amendment, if we lose that we are going to lose everything,” Maynard said. “We haven’t had a battle on our own shores for so long many people don’t see it as a threat, but it is a hidden threat.” A former Marine, Maynard said he understands the responsibilities that come along with carrying a firearm. “We are not wanting everyone to be armed, we just want them to have the right,” Maynard said. “We advocate choice here. There is only one person responsible for your safety and that’s you.” McCune said he was pleased with how the meeting went Sunday. “I thought it went very well,” McCune said. “I was satisfied with the outcome and with the number of people that came.” McCune said the next John Birch Society meeting is scheduled to be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4, at the Spring Street Coffee House. All: I uploaded Overview of America as word documents on our meetup site: http://www.meetup.com... Because it would be difficult to illustrate the Political Spectrum in a speech, I excluded that part from the transcription of the video. I'll upload the word documents at this site if you want them. "I know alot of people want to pull their kids out of class on Tuesday. I, however, submit that you GO with your child to the viewing. Removing your child allows the other children to be indoctrinated and my isolate your child. ... MoreAlso, you need to see what Barack is telling children and report it to the school district, the principal the local media and explain to the other children through discussion about what Barack told them and the truths about how Obama was schooled in an Islamic school then private school. Explain to them the importance of following what their parent's say and explain that although we should appreciate the elected officials, if you feel like it is poor representation or judgement, the kids have a duty to stand up for their beliefs and voice their opposition if their freedoms are being taken away. Its time NOW to question with boldness and not fear your government, demonstrate to your children that you do not fear your government and ultimately, the people control the government, not the other way around.
