I tried sending this as an email blast to the group, but couldn't figure out how.

I gathered some facts on McCain that paint a very different picture than the mass media portrays and I wanted to share it. Here goes.......

The media would paint McCain as a war hero, a maverick, a former POW who believes in country first. A guy who'll give you nothing but straight talk.

Well, the facts present a much different picture. Read on for the REAL straight talk express.

McCain's time as a POW

In McCain's own words just four days after being captured, he admits he violated the U.S. Code of Conduct by telling his captors "O.K, I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." [Source: [http://www.vietnamvet...]

Colonel Earl Hopper also backs this up:

"He asked the Vietnamese to take him to the hospital... and in so doing he promised them he would give them classified military information. They did, he did. They took him to the hospital, questioned him and he gave highly classified information.

The most important of which was he gave the package routes, which were the routes to bomb North Vietnam. He told them detail: the altitude they were flying, the direction, if they made a turn ..."

He also gave them where the targets where of their primary interest. Whether it was a railroad, whether is was a bridge, whether it was a ammunition or a fuel dump or whatever it was. He gave them what primary targets the US is interested in.

After he gave them that information, the Vietnamese naturally moved their anti-aircraft defenses into those areas and built them up and strengthened them. They also moved rocket and aircraft weapons into the package routes of where the airplanes were flying in or egressing.

The result of this according to the information that came out later on in intelligence was that the Vietnamese started knocking down our aircraft in greater amounts than they had before. In fact, there was an estimate that we started losing 60% more aircraft and more men than we had previously.

This went on for about a month and it got so bad that they called off the bombing of North Vietnam."

While at the Hanoi Hilton,

"...he was provided with an apartment in Hanoi and the services of two prostitutes. Upon returning to his prison cell, he would say he had been held in solitary confinement. That may be why so many of his fellow prisoners said later they saw so little of him at Hoa Loa."

McCain:
- Ignored pleas of POW/MIA Family Members for his political influence in the overall POW/MIA Issue as well as with their individual cases

- Verbally abused POW/MIA Family Members in public and private

- Diminished legislation that gave oversight and protection to the families

- Dismantled protection to any future servicemen that go missing.

Member of the "Keating Five": congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions.
